Finkle Street
Malton, Yorkshire
Discovering Malton
As one of the key routes into Malton’s historic town centre, Finkle Street is a traditional market street which is now home to great fashion, food, floristry and more! Dating back to the Medieval period, Finkle Street was originally one of only two access roads into Malton’s thriving Market Place.
With its traditional, charming buildings and views of the Yorkshire Pudding wall for recipe inspiration, Finkle Street really is one of Malton’s gems.
Finkle Street Suggestions
Leading up to Malton’s Market Place you’ll find a welcoming collection of shops that is Finkle Street with many of its buildings dating back to the late 1800’s/early 1900’s.
One of Finkle Street’s longest running businesses is The Topiary Tree Florist, where a mother and daughter team produce beautiful bouquets for every occasion. Their first shop in Malton was on Saville Street and they’ve since expanded the business twice in recent years as they’re positively blooming!
There’s some new additions to the street too including Scandi lifestyle and fashion shop Bias Stores who are well worth a visit for stylish, chic and sustainable shopping.
The Wytchwood Gallery & Studio is also new to Finkle Street, after expanding from the nearby Shambles. The gallery showcases animal and textile artwork created by its award-winning owner, Alison Spaven.
Across the road, the retail therapy continues at Footwear by The Country Cobbler which opened almost 20 years ago, in addition to their main shoe shop and repair unit in The Shambles.
Finkle Street is also home to Malton Fisheries, Malton’s local fishmonger, which stocks a variety of produce from fresh wet fish to shellfish and lobsters that have been caught only a short drive away on the Yorkshire coast!
If you’re looking for the perfect picnic treats or you
enjoy a specialist cheese, why not pop along to the recently opened deli “The Walled Garden Pantry” to replenish your supplies? Specialising in artisan cheeses and meats, the family run business has a
wealth of knowledge about the products and they also run regular monthly cheese and wine events too!
If you’re visiting Malton, don’t forget to check out two of our most popular photo opportunity points that can be found just at the top of Finkle Street on Newgate - the Visit Malton Cow and just over the road, you’ll see our giant homage to one of Yorkshire’s most popular foodie staples - the delicious Yorkshire Pudding! Interestingly, it was less than 100 years ago that Newgate was created when what was a wine merchants and an inn were partially demolished to make way for the “New” thoroughfare!
