Let's Dance Event

Let’s Dance is a national campaign to inspire everyone in the UK to embrace dance as a way of improving their health, connect with others and have fun.

Founded by Angela Rippon CBE, the campaign is supported by leading organisations including the Sport and Recreation Alliance, NHS, and Parkinson’s UK.

The mission is to get more people dancing together, regardless of age, fitness level or experience.

Kirkham Henry Performing Arts have booked the Milton Rooms for the afternoon of Sunday, March 2 with the idea that each of their community adult classes will come together to do a demonstration of each class, then it is hoped the general public will join in a taster session.

Principal Angela Kirkham said: ‘’Kirkham Henry would love all to take part to demonstrate the benefits of dance. If you do not wish to take part in the demo, I hope you will still be able to come along as staff will be on hand to provide support and talk to anyone who enquires about the classes.

‘’Refreshments, dance books and all things dancing will be available. It promises to be a lovely fun and social afternoon for all.’’

Kirkham Henry will be working closely with the Milton Rooms and hope to raise some funds between them. There will be no fee to take part but there will be a raffle and a donation bucket. Email info@kirkhamhenrycio.org.org for more information.

All materials are provided and included in the price so you just need to bring yourself - an apron and something to take your lovely painting(s) home with you would also be useful.

Your tutor for the workshop is Ione - an landscape artist and tutor with over 30 years' teaching experience. Her aim in her teaching is twofold: for you to feel supported to develop confidence and skill in using the wonderful medium of watercolour; for you to have fun and spend an enjoyable time playing with colour (and water) in a non-judgemental environment.

James ‘Jay’ Lewis

Date: Friday 21st March 2025

Time: 8pm

Location: The Milton Rooms, Market Place, Malton, YO17 7LX

Tickets: £15 per person

Event Overview

A self-taught multi-instrumentalist, James Jay Lewis has graced some of the biggest stages across the globe performing in The La’s, playing bass for the band Cast and currently as the lead guitarist in The Zutons.

At eight, James picked up his first guitar and embarked on a lifelong journey in music, honing his craft through countless hours of listening to the likes of Hendrix, Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Nick Drake and many more.  He formed the band Cractilla and they toured up and down the UK in the early 2000s. He has been a professional musician ever since.

James’s two solo albums,, both written and produced by himself, Back to the Fountain and Waiting for the World, are a testament to his diverse musical talent. Back to the Fountain is an acoustic odyssey where every note and sound tells the story of a beautiful masterpiece.

His newly released album, Waiting for the World, on the other hand is a unique lo-fi experience. It has a captivating charm as James plays all the instruments on the record. A rough and ready garage blues masterpiece. Fans agree, describing it as innovative, diverse and a truly pleasing aural experience, an album well worth owning.

As James continues to forge a journey in music, he has had the privilege of working with Nile Rodgers at Abbey Road Studios, is also involved in the new Zutons album due for release and is venturing into the domain of recording, producing and composing for television and film.

Lynne Hanson - Music Concert

Lynne Hanson - Music Concert

Date: Sunday 30th March 2025

Time: 7.30pm

Location: The Milton Rooms, Malton, YO17 7LX

Tickets: £20pp

Too tough for folk and too blues-influenced for country, Lynne Hanson’s brand of porch music with a little red dirt can turn from a sunshine, blue sky ballad to a full on thunderstorm of gritty Americana swamp from one song to the next. Her hard living music has earned her the nickname “Canada’s Queen of Americana”. And while her deep, bluesy croon has drawn comparisons with Lucinda Williams and Gillian Welch, it’s the poetry of her lyrics that really sets her apart.

Hanson is known for her high energy, roots guitar driven live performances, whether playing solo or with her band the Good Intentions. She has an uncanny way of connecting with her audience with an authenticity that is as entertaining as it is disarming.nce chooses the songs from her Song Menu (Mozart to musicals, to Elvis). It’s like nothing you’ve seen before. Taking the ‘posh’ out of opera.

Indian head massage, also referred to as champissage, is an ancient, traditional Ayurvedic treatment, originating from India, which focuses on the acupressure points on the head, neck, and shoulders, using circular massage strokes to improve hair and scalp condition. The practice, which has been deployed for over 2000 years, originated as a bonding and caring experience among family members, neighbours and friends.

The benefits of the treatment include:

  • Promoting hair growth by increasing oxygen to the scalp and follicles

  • Relief of headaches and migraines through reduction of tension in the head, shoulders and neck

  • Enhancing relaxation and relief of the symptoms of depression and anxiety

  • Reduction of stress, quietenting of the mind and boosting of memory

  • Stimulation of lymphatic and cerebral fluid drainage

  • Improvement of sleep through promoting reduction in stress

Our experienced, qualified practitioner, Wayne King, will provide 30 minute one to one treatments in ambient surroundings; fragranced with our signature blend essential oil wellbeing candles and diffusers.

These treatments require no oils (unless desired), can be administered seated if required and can be performed through light clothing. Malton Museum Roman Festival 2025

Malton Roman Festival 2025

THE EMPIRE IS BACK - MALTON MUSEUM ROMAN FESTIVAL

Its July the 20th  2025 and early in the morning nothing stirs except the birds in the trees. The sun is up and it’s a lovely day and then from far away the sounds of marching men and horses as once again the Malton Museum Roman Festival arrives to reclaim the fort and vicus of Delgovicia (now known as Orchard Field) for the Emporer.

All citizens of Malton, Norton and the surrounding area are invited to attend from 10 o’clock in the morning to 4 o’clock in the afternoon to enjoy demonstrations of marching, fighting and horsemanship as well as displays of archaeology and Roman life. And there’s plenty for the younger citizens to do as well but be aware! – they might be recruited into the Kids Roman Army and put through their marching skills by one of the legionaries. We are in the process of lining up authors and other speakers.

Food and drink will be plentiful on site with savoury and sweet items from local traders.

We are now taking applications from groups, Roman historical societies, traders and traditional craft workers who would like to attend.

Notes for editors

The settlement of Delogovicia was a calvary base and established around AD71.

Formerly thought to be Derventio, recent research has suggested that Derventio was more likely to have been Stamford Bridge and Delogvicia is now the more widely accepted name for the Orchard Field site.

Malton Museum reopens for the season on 3rd April and has many items from the fort and local villas such as Langton and Hovingham on display.

Location: The Milton Rooms, Malton

Time: 2pm

Tickets: £8 adults, £4 children 2+

Event Overview

In the fresh sparkling world just after the last Ice Age, there were no dogs – not a single one!  So how did we get our best friend and the world’s number one pet, the dog?

Well, luckily for us, along came two young hunter gatherers called Ugg ‘n’ Ogg to pal up with the wolves Tooth ”n’ Claw and embark on a fun-packed adventure where, despite flying meat bones, raging forest infernos and even a time-travelling stick. they finally get to invent the dog and save us all from a life of doglessness.

This original play for families and dog lovers of all ages is inspired by the truly amazing evolutionary process that transformed the wolf into all the dogs that we see in the world today.

Brought to you by award-winning children’s theatre company Fideri Fidera, Ugg ‘n’ Ogg & The World’s First Dogg has a rich mix of physical comedy, puppets, music and song.

Cosy Cottage: Ancient Wellbeing Indian Head Massage

Cosy Cottage: Ancient Wellbeing Indian Head Massage

Ancient Wellbeing Indian Head Massage

Dates: 1st February and 10th May 2025

Location: 17 Market Place, Malton, YO17 7LX

Tickets: £17.00

The treatments are therefore both inclusive and accessible; perfect for newcomers to massage and wellbeing. These taster length massages are an ideal introduction to this outstandingly relaxing and caring treatment.

Bookings are available between 09.30am and 16.00 on 1st February and 10th May 2025 via the dropdown on this product description
