On Your Marks, Get Set, Eat! The Marathon du Malton Returns with a Bang!
Last weekend saw the return of Britain’s tastiest 10K, during which 400 runners took to the streets of Malton in North Yorkshire, as they ate, drank, and ran their way around the course.
As always, the fancy-dress theme was ‘food’, and the runners did not disappoint – with bananas, strawberries and even red-hot chilli peppers all racing through the stunning countryside of Malton, fondly known as Yorkshire’s Food Capital.
The Marathon du Malton combines the very best of Malton’s local gourmet food and drink production with a 10K route set within the picturesque surroundings of the Yorkshire countryside.
At intervals throughout the race, participants sampled tasty treats such as the iconic Yorkshire pudding-flavoured beer from Malton Brewery, and mouth-watering macarons from Malton’s very own Master Pâtissier Florian Poirot. And whilst the dedicated runners were dashing through Malton’s beautiful fields, the rest of the spectators were kept entertained all day in Malton’s Market Place by the York Mix Radio Roadshow with live music performances from the New York Brass Band and Ross McWhirter.
Tom Naylor-Leyland, Visit Malton Director, said: “It was an absolute joy to see our Marathon du Malton runners back once again! There’s a fantastic atmosphere when the race comes around and it was even more of a celebration to see so many people attend this year’s event after an enforced year away.
“The feedback for the day itself has been really complimentary, especially for our fantastic volunteer marshals and we were thrilled to show off the best of Malton to our runners while offering an unforgettable event. Preparation for next year’s race on Sunday 18th September 2022 starts now!”
