Malton Museum Walking Tour: River, Road, Railway
Date: Saturday 19th April 2025
Time: 11am-12.30pm
Where: Meet at the Malton Museum, 36 Yorkersgate, Malton, YO17 7AB.
Malton Museum offers an interesting variety of public guided walking tours around the town’s historic centre.
This tour takes a route along a stretch of riverbank via Navigation Wharf, now a forgotten backwater, telling the story of Malton’s 18th and 19th century transport and trade, and life before the motor car. This area of town was once an extremely important area bustling with life, and the station was once a noisy place with an imposing railway goods handling building, an outsized cattle dock, and extensive coal sidings that served a wide area. Come and learn about how and where it all happened! (We recommend wearing sensible footwear and bringing a raincoat).
The tour takes about 90 minutes. We use audio headsets to ensure everyone can hear the guides when the town is busy. The maximum size of a group is 20.
Cost £10.00 per person, includes an information pack.
