“A weekend of fun!” : August Bank holiday weekend events planned in Malton

Live music, walking tours, crafting workshops and a summer party are set to make a great longweekend for residents and visitors to Malton this month, as the town gears up for three days of merriment across the August bank holiday weekend.

“As most people will know, the Food Lovers Festivals have reverted back to their pre-Covid formats, taking place over the Spring bank holiday weekend in May, and the second one returns to the first weekend in October, to mark the fantastic harvest produce created across the region.  Even without a summer Food Lovers Festival over the August bank holiday weekend, we are still expecting the town to be bustling with visitors enjoying the makers and bakers that are here all year round!”

Highlights of the bank holiday weekend include:

·         Summer Celebrations at The Talbot Hotel, (Saturday 24 August, 10am to 9pm).  Live music and a host of artisan products, many made across the road from the hotel at Talbot’s Yard!  A fantastic way to celebrate Malton’s reputation for fine food and drink, from champagne and oysters, to macarons and ice-cream at the town’s AA award-winning hotel!  Free admission.

·         Malton Museum’s walking tour: River, road, railway!  (Saturday 24 August, 11.00am) A special guided tour including exploration of Malton’s trade and transport systems.  The walk takes around 90 minutes and costs just £10 per person.  Prebooking is essential as places are limited: visit www.maltonmuseum.co.uk to book.

·         Children’s Bath Bomb and Lip Balm workshop at Cosy Cottage (Saturday 24 August, 2.00pm) Wondering how to ensure your children smell fabulous this bank holiday weekend?  This workshop will have them making fizzing bath bombs and soothing lip salve that smells heavenly!  Suitable for children aged eight and over, the session lasts 90 minutes and costs just £15 per child.  Booking is essential; visit www.cosycottagesoap.co.uk

·         Eden Camp’s Living History Weekend (24 & 25 August, 10.00am to 5.00pm) – like stepping back in time to the 1940s, meet re-enactors around every corner, explore a Sherman tank and dance the day away to live music in the Engine Shed.  Visitors are very welcome to dress up in 1940s clothes.  Standard admission prices apply (£17 for adults, £14 for children, with discounts for booking in advance online).

·         Summer Staycation Party (Sunday 25 August, 1.00pm – 9.00pm) at Chapter Two Bar proves that you don’t need to head out of town to have holiday fun!  For just £12 per ticket, enjoy a glass of prosecco on arrival and canapés, as you wile away the summer afternoon listening to a live saxophone player!  Tickets are available from the bar, but are expected to sell-out.

Anyone staying in town after the bank holiday weekend can also enjoy a unique evening hosted by Malton Whisky Society at The Cook’s Place on the evening of Tuesday 27 August.  Instead of asking ‘what whisky goes with food’, you’ll be invited to explore the food that goes with whisky!  Three courses, paired with three whiskies, hosted by chef Gilly Robinson and James McMillan of McMillans of Malton.  Tickets are £60 per person, and must be booked here: https://www.mcmillansofmalton.co.uk/products/mws-the-cooks-place-27th-august

Malton’s Monthly Food Market returns on Saturday 14 September, and many of the stalls are staying for the weekend, with the Malton 10k – dubbed ‘Britain’s tastiest 10k’ - taking place the following day (Sunday 15 September).    Malton’s Harvest Food Lovers’ Festival will take over the town centre on Saturday 5 and Sunday 6 October 2024.
